An interview with Larry Tanner: Touching lives 1 color at a time.

Biography

I was an over the road trucker for 34 yrs covering all 48 states sharing stories & listening to others share their stories

Can you tell me more about your Advocacy?

I receive & I read stories about how so many people are dealing with a large variety of health problems, so I color my goatee to help bring awareness to their affliction.

What is your passion and how did you get involved in Parkinson’s awareness and hope for a cure?

My passion is to show others that someone does care enough to share their affliction with the world.

What type of goals does individuals with Parkinson’s have when seeing your Advocacy?

Hopefully to bring hope to the hopeless.

How do you become aware of these many illnesses?

There are so many afflictions that I research what it is & how it affects people

What effect can your Advocacy have on an individual with Parkinson’s?

That they recognize someone else cares about them & wants the world to care also.

What would you like to see as a future goal for your Advocacy?

For me to reach the world to show everyone that someone cares what they are going through

What events do you participate in?

Back in WI I used to ride in a lot of charity rides because I am a biker.

How does this also assist the caregivers?

Hopefully thankful that there’s someone thinking of their afflicted one.

How can someone get in touch?  What is your website?

On TikTok they can reach me: @ Larry Tanner

Instagram: LarryTanner548

How can others also become advocates for awareness?

I would say do whatever you can think of to bring awareness to whichever affliction you feel strongest about.

In your opinion, what is the key to effective advocacy?

Believe in what you are doing.  Be positive about what you are doing.  Don’t quit when you get negative people coming at you.  I quit a couple times because of hateful comments.  I can count on 1 hand the number of those people but there’s over a thousand people that tell me thank you for what you do & keep it up.

How can we better fundraise to support a cure for Parkinson’s?

There are so many ways to do fundraising events.  Just be creative

What other activities do you undertake to help improve and support your daily living Eg exercise and alternative remedies?

When I see someone with different colors in their hair, I compliment them & ask why they do it & after they share why, I share my story & give them my sites. If I see them staring or peeking, I walk up to them & make a joke about them peeking then I share my story.

Why should people who don’t have Parkinson’s care about this?

People should care about all inflictions because they might hit 1 of theirs.

Have you had any family members or relatives affected by Parkinson’s disease?

No, I haven’t but they’ve had different health concerns

If you had one song that would tell us more about you or represent your life, which song would it be?

Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel.  To me, it explains why I wear my colors.   I can explain when we sit down together.

If you had one final statement or quote you could leave for the Parkinson’s community, what would it be?

I believe having a health affliction & pain is from the adversary trying to control you & try to turn you from God.  God has you become somebody special so you can help others learn compassion & love no matter what someone is going through & you have the parents & families that our Lord gave you to because he knew they were the right ones to love you & care for you & groom you & raise you till it is time to go home with Jesus & be affliction & pain free.
